CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. —

Charlottetown council unanimously Tuesday to sell a piece of property to allow for the construction of a new Sherwood Elementary school.

The 0.89 acres of land are located behind the Cody Banks Arena and will be sold at a purchase price of $158,000.

The provincial government had approached the city to purchase a portion of the property behind the arena in order to construct a school to replace Sherwood Elementary.

A motion to approve the sale was presented at council’s monthly meeting on Aug. 12, but was deferred so councillors could meet with provincial representatives and obtain additional information before making a decision.

Council voted to proceed with the sale during a special meeting Tuesday.
