Charlottetown chamber announces award finalists

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Greater Charlottetown Chamber of Commerce has announced the finalists for this year's President's Excellence Awards.

This is the 15th annual awards ceremony, which will be held on the evening of March 24 at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Prince Edward in Charlottetown on Queen Street. The event will allow for both in-person attendance and virtual audiences.

"While the past 11 months have been incredibly challenging for our business community, there have been many examples of resiliency in the face of adversity," said Colin Younker, president of the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, in a press release. "The Chamber looks forward to coming together safely to recognize the innovation, hard work, and commitment that our business community continues to demonstrate."


This year's finalists by category are:

The Excellence in Business Award

  • JEMS Boutique, Maximus Canada – DeltaWare Division, and Wendell Taylor's Garage.

The Emerging Business Excellence Award

  • The HOPYARD, Leading Edge Group, and Odyssey Virtual.

The Workplace Excellence Award

  • Glasgow Hills Resort & Golf Club, Receiver Coffee Company, and Upstreet Craft Brewing.

The Excellence in Customer Service Award

  • Charlottetown Home Hardware, Hunter's Ale House, and Glasgow Hills Resort & Golf Club.

The Not-for-Profit Excellence Award

  • Canadian Mental Health Association (P.E.I Division), Kiwanis Club of Charlottetown, and The Upper Room Hospitality Ministry Food Bank & Soup Kitchen.

The People's Choice for Community Impact Award

  • Leading Edge Group, Upstreet Craft Brewing, and Wendell Taylor's Garage.

The winner in this category will be determined through an online voting poll Jan 27-Feb. 3.

The chamber has added two new awards to recognize businesses that have pivoted and perservered during COVID-19. These are:

The Excellence in Collaboration Award

  • 3rd Degree Training, Piatto Pizzeria+Enoteca Charlottetown, Terry's Berries.

The Excellence in Adaptation & Resiliency Award

  • Copper Bottom Brewing, MacKinnon's Lobster Pound/Lobster on the Wharf, Terry's Berries.

The Chamber Volunteer Excellence Award and the Entrepreneur of the Year Award receipients will be determined by a chamber committee and announced at a later date. The event's and award's sponsors are the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, the City of Charlottetown, the MRSB Group, the Confederation Centre of the Arts, Maritime Electric, Provincial Credit Union, KKP, The Guardian, Ocean 100/Hot 105.5, and Innovation P.E.I.
