Submissions are now being accepted for the City of Charlottetown’s Make Our Hometown Beautiful program.

The gardening program is designed to recognize those who maintain buildings and landscapes within city limits. Businesses and residents can self-nominate or nominate someone else. This year, the properties will be chosen based on curb appeal or what can be viewed from the road without entering private property.

The deadline for nominations is Aug. 7 at 4 p.m. Judging will take place the week of Aug. 10, and winners will be announced the week of Aug. 17.

One winner will be chosen from each of the 10 city wards. Winners will receive a gift card to a local business.

The mayor will review all of the winners from the 10 wards and choose the best overall for the Mayor’s Award, which will include a gift certificate to a local business and a handmade, live-edge bench made from the historic elms that were removed in Charlottetown due to Dutch elm disease. A

Also being announced the week of Aug. 17 are the first-, second- and third-place winners of the Adopt a Corner Program and the winner of the Councillor Barrel Program, which involves city councillors planting in barrels for placement around the city.

The nomination form is available online at www.charlottetown.ca under the Events Initiatives section.
