Organizers of the Cavendish Beach Music Festival have decided to cancel the 2020 edition due to coronavirus (COVID-19 strain) concerns.

In a statement on Tuesday, Jeff Squires, president of Whitecap Entertainment, the body responsible for the concerts, said he was saddened by the outcome but knows cancelling the event was the right decision.

"Following weeks of COVID-19 monitoring, discussion and input in conjunction with officials from the Province of Prince Edward Island and the Resort Municipality of Cavendish, the safety of our community remains a priority and we will forego year 12 and reunite in 2021."

The festival has run for 11 years in Cavendish. Ticket buyers for this year's event will be emailed directly with the information to request a refund or transfer their ticket to the 2021 festival.

They will be given $30 in festival beach bucks (tokens) should they choose to transfer their ticket to CBMF 2021.

All ticket buyers must respond by May 25, or their tickets will be automatically transferred to CBMF 2021.

"Trust that the 2021 Cavendish Beach Music Festival presented by Bell will be one of the best ones yet and we are working to bring you some of the hottest names in country music. Before you know it, we’ll be announcing the 2021 lineup," said Squires.

Those who purchased a shuttle pass from Coach Atlantic group will be contacted directly by the group to process refunds.

People who were booked to stay at the Route 6 Ranch, an official campground of the festival will be contacted to receive a refund or a campsite transfer offer.

"We will see you July 9-11, 2021, in the meantime stay safe, stay home, and support your favourite artists and local businesses," said Squires.
