A P.E.I. man who was involved in a standoff with the RCMP in Souris will be back in court next month to be sentenced.

Donovan Scott MacCaull, 25, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown by video from jail Wednesday morning.

MacCaull has been in custody since his arrest on May 8 and during his previous court appearance he pleaded guilty to six charges related to multiple incidents.

The charges include possessing a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace, uttering a threat, damaging property, theft and two counts of breaching his probation.

On May 8, the RCMP issued an alert asking Souris residents to stay indoors because of an incident involving a potentially armed man who they said had barricaded himself inside a building.

MacCaull was arrested, and no one was injured during the incident.

During a previous court appearance, MacCaull said the weapon was a pellet gun.

MacCaull was unrepresented during his previous appearances before Orr.

On Wednesday, defence lawyer Thane MacEachern, who took part in the proceedings by phone because of public health measures in place due to the coronavirus (COVID-19 strain) pandemic, said he was representing MacCaull.

MacEachern said he needed time to review all the information with MacCaull and asked for an adjournment.

MacCaull’s next court date is scheduled for June 12.
