CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — An Australian doctor who was charged with child pornography offences in P.E.I. is expected to appear in court in his home country later this week.
Dr. Stephen Peter Menzies Murray wasn’t in P.E.I. Supreme Court in Charlottetown Tuesday where his case was called before Chief Justice Tracey Clements.
Crown attorney Gerald Quinn told the court Murray is set to be arraigned in the district court of Queensland on Friday.
Quinn said Murray is expected to enter a guilty plea at that time.
Murray was charged in 2018 with possessing, making and distributing child pornography.
The allegations relate to written material, and the RCMP arrested Murray after a tip from the public.
Since his arrest, Murray returned to Australia on several conditions that included posting $750,000 in bail.
He also sought to have the matters transferred, and the court previously heard they are in the hands of an Australian prosecutor.
Murray’s case will be called again in P.E.I. Supreme Court on Jan. 14.
