Workers, unions and community leaders will gather in Charlottetown Monday to celebrate Labour Day with a picnic – and a message.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Joseph Ghiz Memorial Park.

Canada’s unions will amplify their call for universal, single-payer prescription drug coverage for everyone in Canada at annual Labour Day celebrations across the country.

“Many unionized workers have prescription drug coverage through their collective agreements,” said Carl Pursey, president of the P.E.I. Federation of Labour.

“This isn’t just about union members. This is about doing the right thing for everyone in Canada.”

Last year, Canada’s unions launched a national campaign calling for a prescription drug plan that covers everyone in Canada.
