One of Charlottetown Mayor Philip Brown’s promises was that he was going to be a full-time mayor.

He continues to work on doing just that.

Brown, a long-time teacher at Prince Street Elementary School, said his academic leave has been extended to Jan. 31.

However, he still plans on leaving that position.

“There is a possible pension option for me and that would put me in the seat as a full-time mayor,’’ Brown said.

Brown said he’s not doing it for the money. The mayor makes $65,000 per year while the deputy mayor makes $33,000 (then an additional $3,000 for filling in for the mayor) while a councillor makes $33,000.

Brown said he won’t be asking for a pay increase to do the job full time.

“I believe the salary that’s there now… is sufficient. Public service comes first. If I came into this for more money, I’m in the wrong business.’’
