CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Heather Morrison, has confirmed one new case of coronavirus (COVID-19 strain) in P.E.I. in a media release.
The case is a female in her 80s from Queens County, making her the oldest positive COVID-19 case in P.E.I. since the pandemic began. The woman is at home and is self-isolating. Contact tracing and follow-up are now underway, and a public briefing will be scheduled Sunday evening or Monday morning when more information is available.
This case does not appear to be linked to the recent cluster of cases or Whisperwood Villa.
This brings the total number of cases on the Island to 34, with 7 active cases.
This new case comes after a cluster of cases were announced last weekend and throughout the week.
Of those, 5 were linked to a man in his 20s who returned to the Island from Nova Scotia on June 30, before the Atlantic travel bubble opened July 3 and the other was an essential worker who had travelled out of province.
