Terry Bernard, first elected to Charlottetown’s city council in November of 2000, is seeking a new mandate.

Bernard resides in the community with his wife, Sandy, where they raised their children, Matthew, Jarrett and Kayla.

Municipal voters head to the polls on Nov. 5. Jason MacKinnon is also chasing the Ward 10 seat on council.

Bernard is currently the chairman of public works and urban beautification, vice-chairman of protective and emergency services and a member of the parks and recreation and finance committee.

“This past term, as a community, we have seen infilling of ditches to make it safer and easier to maintain our properties, added multi-purpose pathways (and) resurfaced the asphalt on many streets,” said Bernard.

“We’ve improved lighting in our community that includes the installation of old fashioned lanterns along Acadian Drive.’’

The ward has also seen the creation of a new playground at the Parkman Soccer Complex in East Royalty. New equipment has been added to the Jack “Bomber” Callaghan Park, Andrews Court Park, Bonnie Blink Park and Bridal Path Park.

Bernard said he helped deliver a walking path around Andrews Pond and has organized community groups that see regular yard sales, corn boils, dances and decorating contests.

“We have planted flowers in our community entrance ways and community centres and have added new trees to our community. Ward 10 has also seen the installation of a new dog park on Acadian Drive,’’ said Bernard, who promises to hold the line on taxes while continuing to improve services.

In addition, Bernard was recognized by the Federation of P.E.I. Municipalities when he was awarded the Bruce H. Yeo Award in 2018. This is an award that acknowledges a sitting member of a municipality across P.E.I. for his outstanding contribution to municipal affairs.
