The fried dough pastry, individually hand stretched to resemble a beaver’s tail, is now on sale at Peake’s Quay on Charlottetown’s waterfront.

Owner Brandon Parent, who has owned an operated a BeaverTails store since 2013 along the waterfront in Saint John, N.B., says he chose the waterfront location in the capital city because it enjoys a good flow of tourists.

“Our clients are usually tourists,’’ he says.

“The Americans, they see BeaverTails and they have to come.’’

Nine varieties will be sold, including the original cinnamon and sugar as well as chocolate hazelnut, maple, apple cinnamon, Skor cheesecake, peanut butter and Reese’s Pieces, cookies and vanilla icing, chocolate hazelnut spread and bananas, and cinnamon, sugar and lemon.

There is even a BeaverDog.

Other items include gelato, smoothies and soft-serve ice cream.

BeaverTails or Queues de Castor is a Canadian-based chain of pastry stands operated by BeaverTails Canada Inc.

Parent expects to have about 10 full-time and five part-time staff.

The store will be open Monday to Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

A BeaverTails outlet has been operating for more than 20 years along the Cavendish Boardwalk.
