THREE RIVERS, P.E.I. - A Victoria Cross man who drove to a cannabis store while he was banned from driving was sentenced recently to 15 days in jail.
Jonathan Gordon Schellekens appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Georgetown where he pleaded guilty to driving while prohibited.
Crown attorney Nathan Beck told the court that on July 25, Montague RCMP responded to a complaint about Schellekens who was prohibited from driving after he was found guilty in May of dangerous driving and fleeing the police.
Beck said Schellekens went to P.E.I. Cannabis in Montague where he was caught on surveillance video getting out of his vehicle, going inside the store, heading back out and driving away.
When the police went to Schellekens’ residence he didn’t answer the door.
The court heard the vehicle Schellekens was driving belonged to his mother and the police impounded it.
Along with the jail time, which Schellekens was allowed to serve on weekends so he could continue working, Orr issued another one-year driving prohibition that will run concurrent to his previous ban.
