A man who punched someone in a parking lot and hit him with a trunk door was sentenced recently to 30 days in jail.

Stephen Eric Scantlebury, 26, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to the assault.

According to the agreed statement of facts, Scantlebury, who lives in Florida and has dual citizenship, punched his son’s maternal grandfather in a Tim Hortons parking lot.

The victim ended up with a fractured nose.

When Scantlebury went to close his car’s trunk, it hit the victim in the head causing a laceration.

Before hearing his sentence, Scantlebury apologized for the incident, saying he regretted his actions and hoped the victim was doing well.

Orr accepted a joint recommendation of 30 days in jail with a 10-year weapons prohibition.
