SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - Police are investigating an alleged theft by a staff member from Summerside’s largest recreation facility.

City officials have confirmed an incident has taken place at the taxpayer-owned Credit Union Place (CUP).

Gordon MacFarlane, deputy CAO for the City of Summerside, confirmed to the Journal Pioneer on Monday that the city is aware of the incident.

“Once we became aware, we turned the file over to our local police to investigate. Any employee issues that arose were handled with ordinary HR processes,” MacFarlane said.

Multiple sources have told the Journal Pioneer that the person accused is no longer working at the CUP.

Summerside Police Services said the investigation into the complaint is ongoing.

Sgt. Ron MacLean said the investigation was in the early stages, so police won’t be commenting the value of the alleged theft, when it occurred, or when police received the complaint until charges are filed.

Credit Union Place is a city-run recreation facility housing two rinks, a bowling alley, aquatics complex, restaurants and the Island Sports Hall of Fame.
