TIGNISH, P.E.I. - Tignish residents have returned Allan McInnis as mayor of their town.
McInnis was the choice of 195 voters while his challenger, Dryden Buote was the choice of 120 voters.
All five incumbents who re-offered were re-elected, and they will be joined at the council table by the town’s former recreation director, Sam Arsenault, who finished sixth in balloting with 210 votes.
The town’s current deputy mayor, Angel Murphy, led the way in balloting with 251 votes, followed by John McInnis, 244, Debbie Fennessey, 235, Judy Morrissey-Richard, 221, and Lloyd Gavin, 215.
Missing out on a council seat were Colleen Dwyer, 147, and Edward Gallant, 106.
A total of 317 out of 560 eligible voters cast ballots.
McInnis has been at the helm of the Tignish council since 2012 and became mayor last year when Tignish was granted town status.
