CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — An Alberta woman who said she drove drunk after her designated driver ditched her and her friends was recently fined $1,000.
Alexandra Elizabeth Finlayson, 21, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown where she pleaded guilty to drunk driving.
The court heard Finlayson was visiting Charlottetown from Alberta when the police pulled her over on March 17 after a report of a possible impaired driver.
Finlayson later provided breathalyzer samples that were above the legal limit.
Defence lawyer Alex Dalton told the court Finlayson hadn’t planned on driving that night but was out partying with friends when their designated driver ditched them.
Finlayson spent the night in jail after her arrest.
Along with the fine, Finlayson is banned from driving for one year.
