Al Douglas shoots down rumours that he's dropped out of chase for Charlottetown mayor's seat

Al Douglas is still in the race for mayor in Charlottetown, despite rumours to the contrary.

Sources had told The Guardian that Douglas was planning on pulling out of the race and Douglas himself said Thursday morning that he’s heard the same story over the past week.

“I have heard the rumour but it is just that, a rumour,’’ Douglas said. “I’m not sure how or where it started.’’

Douglas said his father’s health is not good and thinks that’s where the rumour may have started.

Douglas, whose full-time job is as marketing events manager for the Murphy Hospitality Group, said his campaign team will be issuing a news release soon confirming that he is still in the race.

So far, Douglas is the only candidate for mayor although there are rumours out there about others. One of the hot rumours is that former city councillor Cecil Villard is contemplating throwing his hat in the ring.

As for current Mayor Clifford Lee, he continues to keep his cards close to his vest and isn’t saying what his intentions are either way.

Municipal voters in Charlottetown head to the polls in the civic election in November.
