CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The health of children in P.E.I. will be the focus of a community forum in Charlottetown Tuesday night.

The forum is being presented by the P.E.I. Working Group for a Livable Income in partnership with the Public Health Association of New Brunswick and P.E.I.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Murphy’s Community Centre on Richmond Street. The storm date is Feb. 6, same time and location.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Heather Morrison, P.E.I.’s chief health officer.

She will discuss her government-commissioned research, Children’s Report 2017: Investing in our Future. The report examines data relating to the health of P.E.I. children and the impact of current child health on the future well-being of Island populations. Participants will have an opportunity to consider the relationship of family income to health outcomes for children.

There will be table discussions during the second half of the evening around the theme "where do we go from here?"

The Working Group feels it’s vital to immediately improve the situation of people affected by low income and they see basic income guarantee as a long-term solution to poverty.

All are welcome.
