Denise Macleod Ling has announced that she is running for a council seat in Ward 1 of Stratford in the Nov. 5 municipal election.

Macleod Ling grew up in Stratford and, after living away for eight years, has lived again in Stratford for almost 15 years, where she has raised a family. She and her husband Michael have two children, Parker and Cassandra.

As councillor, Macleod Ling says she would like to be involved in planning a new campus with two new schools opened in the area. Recently back from a trip to Surrey, B.C. for U17 soccer nationals, she got to see first-hand in that city a campus similar to what is being discussed for Stratford.

She would also like to see a facility for area seniors to take part in arts and recreation, as well as some shared activities with local youth. She also lists attracting more businesses to the Stratford area as a priority.

“With new schools and a larger retail sector, maybe it will help to attract more medical professionals to the Island as well as being able to host national level sporting events,” she said.

Macleod Ling said her background in retail management and office administration makes her a strong candidate for council and for being involved in plans to improve the community.
