CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The City of Charlottetown has issued a reminder of what to do - and not do - on the Victoria Park cycling lane.
The cycling lane is designed for wheeling traffic, such as bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, skateboards, inline skates and other self-propelled wheeling devices.
For safety reasons, walkers and runners, including those pushing a stroller or walking a pet, are not permitted on the cycling lane. The only scenario where it is appropriate for a walker to be on the cycling lane would be in the case of a parent or guardian providing concentrated assistance to walk alongside a young cyclist.
The boardwalk is there for runners and walkers to use, including those pushing strollers. There are also a variety of trails and walkways throughout the park.
The city does have park patrol and staff members monitoring the park to ensure users are following the rules, which includes obeying park signage and staying within speed limits in a motor vehicle or wheeling traffic.
The public works department also recently installed delineators along a section of the cycling lane, from Brighton Road to the median, to deter traffic from entering the cycling lane.
