CORNWALL, P.E.I. - Town residents are getting a chance to meet the mayoral and councillor candidates for the Nov. 5 municipal election.

The Meet Your Candidate Night will be held Thursday, Oct. 25, 7:30-9:30 p.m. in the Cornwall Civic Centre, at 29 Cornwall Rd.

Bill Hogg, spokesman for the non-partisan citizens committee that is organizing the public meeting, said each candidate for mayor will be given five minutes to speak, and each candidate for councillor will be given four minutes.

A meet-and-greet will follow the speeches to offer the public an opportunity to speak to each candidate personally.

Hogg says Cornwall can be a challenging municipality to campaign in since there is no ward system and the town is made up of clusters of urban density separated by fields.

The town uses an at-large voting system that sees residents elect a mayor and six councillors. The top six names in the list of candidates for councillor will form the new town council, along with the mayor.

“All our committee is doing is facilitating this event to try to help the residents of Cornwall in making a decision,” says Hogg.

Light refreshments will be available at the meeting.

For more information, Hogg can be reached at 902-566-2307.
