CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The City of Charlottetown will host an information session for the public regarding the East Royalty sewer trunkline upgrade project.

The session will take place on Tuesday, May 14, at 7 p.m. at the Hillsborough Park Community Center on Patterson Drive.

Residents of Hillsborough Park and Parkdale are encouraged to attend.

The project is a component of the overall project to decommission the East Royalty lagoon. This portion of the project includes upgrading a sewer main that transports sewage from the Westcomb Crescent to the roundabout at the intersection of Exhibition Drive and Riverside Drive. The work involves about 2,800 metres of sewer main and about 40 manholes.

The city has commissioned WSP Canada to oversee the work and they’ve promised minimal disruption to sanitary sewer service for everyone in the construction zone.

The new line will serve the area well into the future and improve service to existing customers along the route. The project will be cost-shared with the federal and provincial governments.

When all is said and done, residents in East Royalty will be connected to the wastewater treatment plant on Riverside Drive.

There will be a number of traffic impacts as well as minor disruptions to service as customers are changed over to a new main. Notices will be posted on the news section of the city’s website at Charlottetown.ca as well as through the city’s social media channels and local media.
