A system-wide test of the Charlottetown Alert System will be conducted on Thursday, May 10, as part of Emergency Preparedness Week.

The city is encouraging the public to sign up for emergency notifications through the alert system. Only those subscribed to the free service will receive alerts.

Anyone who has already signed up for the system will receive a test notification on Thursday through any device they entered into the system. The public is encouraged to respond to the test by following the prompts within the message.

The test will give the public an opportunity to see how emergency alerts are issued by Charlottetown through this system and to make any account changes they wish to have in place in preparation of a real emergency. Changes could include adding additional devices such as an email address so more detailed instructions can be received during an emergency.

Emergency Preparedness Week is an annual event during the first full week of May that encourages Canadians to take actions to be better prepared to protect themselves and their families during emergencies.

To sign up for the alert system, visit www.charlottetown.ca (direct link: https://member.everbridge.net/index/892807736726276#/signup).

Anyone who needs assistance signing up can contact 902-629-4000 during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
