The City of Charlottetown has developed a tree protection bylaw.
The purpose of the bylaw is to recognize the importance of trees as green infrastructure and protect trees on city-owned property, as well as private and city-owned heritage trees.
The bylaw addresses a number of things, such as tree maintenance, decorative lighting in trees, invasive species and removal.
It will guide developers and city departments in activities that affect the city’s urban forest, reducing the impact of construction and maintenance on city trees.
