The City of Charlottetown has taken the next step in its intent to construct a sewer lift station and sewer forcemain to replace the East Royalty lagoon.

The preferred routing for the forcemain is through two properties owned by the P.E.I. Housing Corporation.

City council has supported the establishment of an easement through those properties.

Two years ago, the Water and Sewer Utility submitted an application to the federal government for infrastructure funding at an estimated cost of $3.5 million.

New, larger pipes have to be installed underground that connect East Royalty with Hillsborough Park. Waste water will flow from there to the plant on Riverside Drive.

Once the lagoon is taken offline, the plan is to convert it to green space.
