A Charlottetown resident had an unpleasant surprise after returning to his car after Sunday’s Remembrance Day ceremony in Charlottetown on Sunday.
Mark Leard returned to his 2015 Mazda 3 on the first floor of the Pownal parkade to find the driver-side window smashed.
“It was pretty upsetting,” said Leard, who was with his son at the time.
Missing from the vehicle was $10 and a pack of cigarettes, but Leard said it could have been a lot worse.
“The sad thing is, if they decided to pop the trunk there’s about $1,000 worth of tools sitting in the trunk,” he said, adding he does not yet know how much the cost of the damage to the window will be.
Parkades in Charlottetown are not supervised by an employee during the day and there is no cost to park there on weekends.
Leard said he said he likely won’t park in the parkade again any time soon.
“I can probably count the amount of times I parked in the parkade on one hand and this is probably going to be the last time,” he said.
The break in occurred sometime between 11 and 11:48 a.m.
Charlottetown police are currently investigating the matter.
“There’s not really much I don’t think (police) can do,” Leard said. “The camera’s only at the booth and it’s probably just looking at the worker.”
