SYDNEY, N.S. — Over 440 customers were still experiencing power outages in Cape Breton Monday afternoon following Nova Scotia’s weekend snowstorm.

According to Nova Scotia Power’s (NSP) outage map, at least 95 outages persisted as of late Monday afternoon.

“We have made good progress, restoring 97 per cent of customers (as of this morning) since the storm started,” said NSP senior communications advisor Jacqueline Foster. “We have crews working to restore power in all remaining areas right now and they will continue until the last customer is restored.”

NSP crews are also focusing on more rural areas, where infrastructure isn’t on the side of the road and can take longer to access. Heavy, wet snow has slowed restoration down in some areas as well, said Foster.

“We encourage customers to keep an eye on our outage map for the latest estimated restoration times as they may change when a crew shows up on site.”

On the mainland, fewer than 10 individual outages remained by late Monday afternoon.
