PARADISE, N.L. — One man has died after the truck he was in overturned on Peacekeepers Way at about 9:30 Tuesday night.
On Wednesday, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary confirmed the 33-year-old driver, the vehicle's lone occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A press release from the RNC sends condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
An official on scene told the Telegram the pickup the man was in was headed eastbound when it crossed the snow-covered median and overturned into the westbound lane west of the Weir’s Construction exit. Both directions of the busy highway were closed for several hours as RNC accident investigators examined and documented the scene.
Westbound traffic was redirected back towards Conception Bay South and the dozens of vehicles backed up at the accident scene headed westbound were turned around and sent back to the T.C.H. cloverleaf.
The truck was extensively damaged and at least one wheel sat in the median near the incident.
The St. John’s Regional Fire Department and Eastern Health paramedics were also on scene.
The RNC has opened an investigation in conjunction with the office of the chief medical examiner to determine the cause of death.
More details will be provided as they become available.
The RNC accident investigators ask that anyone with information to assist the investigation contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can now provide information anonymously on the N.L. Crime Stoppers Website at nlcrimestoppers.com.
