Two people had to be extricated from an overturned pickup Thursday night after it slid off the road and flipped over in a ditch in St. John’s.
The incident happened on Mount Scio Road near Groves Road and left the truck lying precariously on its side. Firefighters from the St. John’s Regional Fire Department had to first stabilize the truck so it wouldn’t move before they cut out the windshield of the vehicle.
The two people inside were then helped out of the truck and brought to a waiting ambulance to be checked out. Their injuries were not considered serious.
Roads were snow-covered and icy in the area and even emergency vehicles had to be careful accessing the rollover scene.
The crash was one of a number of incidents in the metro area that followed a sudden snow squall that left just enough ice on some streets to make for challenging driving conditions.
At least one person was sent to hospital following another collision in Mount Pearl but the injuries in that collision were also not considered serious.
