SYDNEY, N.S. — A Supreme Court trial date will be set later this month for a man charged in connection with the death of a 10-year-old girl.
Colin Hugh Tweedie, 29, of Black Rock Road, Victoria County, is charged with dangerous driving causing death, impaired driving causing death, obstruction of justice and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. The offences are alleged to have occurred in 2019 on Black Road Road.
Talia Neveah Forrest, 10, of Sydney Mines, was riding her bicycle along the road when she was struck and killed on July 11, 2019.
During a Supreme Court appearance Monday, a trial date was expected to be set but the case was adjourned until Oct. 19.
Tweedie has entered pleas of not guilty and elected trial in Supreme Court by judge alone. He continues his release on conditions.
An outside Supreme Court justice will be assigned to hear the case as one local justice has declared a conflict while the other is booked with cases well into the new year.
Susan Arsenault, mother of the victim, was accompanied in court Monday by several supporters wanting to ensure “justice for Talia.”
“This has not been a good process at all. I feel like I’m not being kept in the loop,” said Arsenault, explaining she would like to have better communications with the local Crown office and Victim Services.
Talia was described as being a social butterfly who loved learning new things and making new friends.
