The city of St. John's is asking residents to consider giving the gift of play to a child in need this holiday season.

The REAL Program provides recreation and leisure opportunities to children and youth in financial need by matching them with an organized recreational activity of their choice. It costs about $100 to provide a program or class space for one young person.

People can donate online, by telephone or in-person, the city said in a news release.

Donations of $20 or above will receive a tax receipt upon request. Holiday-themed cards are available for purchase, five for $20, by calling or in-person.

The REAL program is administered by the City of St. John’s, however, program spaces used by REAL participants are fully dependent on financial or in-kind donations, the city said.

Donate to REAL online using your RECconnect account: www.stjohns.ca/real; by phone: 576-8684; by email: [email protected] or in person at H.G.R. Mews Community Centre, 40 Mundy Pond Rd., Paul Reynolds Community Centre, 35 Carrick Dr. and Access St. John’s, City Hall, 10 New Gower St.
