Second drowning in same area of Ottawa River within 24 hours

Ottawa Police Service officers responded to an incident at Britannia Beach at around 8:04 pm Saturday evening.

A group of people were swimming in the Ottawa River when one of this group was observed going under the water and did not resurface.

Emergency responders searched the water and shoreline by boat and by foot.

Early Sunday morning, around 1:40 am, a 20-year-old male’s body was recovered from the Ottawa River.

The investigators will continue to determine what occurred.

This is the second drowning within 24 hours at the same area.

The search continues for the body of a 14-year-old boy who went missing Friday.
