BADDECK — Nova Scotia RCMP are continuing to investigate three fatal accidents within three days that claimed the lives of four people.
The three accidents were within a 44-kilometre stretch on Highway 105 in Victoria County.
“Nobody likes incidents like this but we are trained for this type of thing,” said Sgt. Andrew Joyce, adding RCMP have a great deal of resources  throughout the province in cases where they need to supplement assistance.
“Whether this would be the case or not I don’t know but we certainly have those resources available to us if need be,” he said.
The cause of the accidents are not yet known.
“Collision reconstruction analysts are working on the investigations and their investigation is very thorough and detailed and scientific,” Joyce added.
On Tuesday, Dec. 8, a 45-year-old woman from Victoria County was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 105 near Exit 12 in South Haven, after a collision with a tractor-trailer. The driver of the truck, a 47-year-old Hants County man, wasn’t injured. There was extensive damage to the transport truck.
On Wednesday, Dec. 9, a 60-year-old male driver and a 57-year-old woman, both from Inverness County, were killed after their vehicle collided with an 18-wheeler on Highway 105, near the Irving station outside Baddeck. Both were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the transport truck, a 41-year old Newfoundland man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident scene was not far from the Dec. 8 accident.
Joyce said the preliminary investigation revealed one common factor in both of the accidents.
“The point of impact was the side of the cars and the front of the transport trucks,” Joyce said.
On Thursday, Dec. 10, a 31-year-old woman from North Sydney was travelling eastbound on Highway 105 near Bucklaw at about 2:19 p.m., when her vehicle left the road and went into a ditch and rolled over. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The highway was closed for almost seven hours and traffic was rerouted.
Joyce said there were witnesses to the accident.
In an earlier story in the Cape Breton Post, RCMP said it’s been an emotional time for the same three responding units of first responders who attended all three crashes.
In general, Joyce said they always promote safe driving.
“Police at all times advice motorists to drive safely.”
