Preliminary hearing set on second-degree murder charge

WAGMATCOOK — A 22-year-old man is to return to provincial court here in July for a preliminary hearing on a charge of second-degree murder and two counts of child abandonment.

Dwight Austin Isadore is charged in connection with the death of his former girlfriend, Cassidy Bernard, 22, in October 2018 .

Bernard’s remains were found inside her We’koqmaq home. Also present in the home at the time were her infant twin daughters who were found severely dehydrated and hungry.

A preliminary hearing on the charges is now set for July 15-17 and again from July 20-21 in Wagmatcook.

Isadore continues to be on remand.

He is also scheduled to appear in court March 3 for a trial on two counts of uttering threats.

Also at that time, a date will be set for a sentencing hearing on two counts of breaching court orders, and single counts of uttering a threat, illegal drug possession, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a prohibited weapon.

He is also expected to enter pleas on charges of assault with a weapon, breaching a court order and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
