The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed another restaurant in Ottawa: Pressed, the Centretown coffeehouse and live music venue, will be closing its doors late Friday.
Onwer Karie Ford confirmed the news Thursday, one month after announcing that her business was up for sale. But Ford found no buyers willing to take a chance on Pressed with so much uncertainty surrounding the course of the pandemic — and what it will mean for restaurateurs.
Ford said she didn’t know what was next.
“I can’t even think that far ahead,” she said Thursday. “I have been COVID and business obsessed for the past seven-and-a-half months. I’m going to take some time to decompress and then assess what comes next.”
During the early days of the pandemic, Pressed, the Gladstone Avenue sandwich bar and arts space that opened in 2011, remade itself into a touchless, cashless grocery store called Goods in the Hood. It later returned to offering takeout fare, brunch and coffee, while promoting “an environment of social justice and equity.”
