GLACE BAY, N.S. — The Cape Breton Regional Police Service has ended a massive search this week in an area around the Glace Bay and Area Water Treatment Plant located off Tower Road.

The search began early Monday morning and after two days of combing a wooded area around the water treatment plant, regional police spokesperson Desiree Magnus confirmed it ended Tuesday afternoon.

Magnus said she could not get into specifics regarding the search but did say it was a planned search as part of one of their ongoing investigations.

The CBRPS command post was set up on the water treatment plant grounds Monday. More than 35 officers from all units of the police service were on the scene, including major crime, street crime, forensic identification and the K-9 section, as well as school liaison officers. Magnus said there was no special reason for officers from the different sections being involved, they were simply utilizing available resources.

Members of the police marine unit were also on site and divers were spotted searching a body of water nearby.

The Cape Breton Search and Rescue command post was also set up on the grounds but there were no members of the search team at the site, only search manager Paul Vienneau manning the post.

Magnus said because it’s an ongoing investigation they cannot talk about the results of the search or provide any more information at this time.
