PM, dignitaries to attend funeral of John C. Crosbie today in St. John's

The state funeral for John C. Crosbie will take place at 2 p.m. today at the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 16 Church Hill, St. John’s.

Doors to the church will open at 12:30 p.m.

Dignitaries expected to attend include Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, former prime minister Brian Mulroney, former federal politician and current candidate seeking the Conservative leadership Peter MacKay, and former Quebec premier and federal politician Jean Charest.

Ches Crosbie, son of John Crosbie, and Mulroney are expected to give the eulogies.

John Carnell Crosbie, a former lieutenant-governor and Newfoundland and Labrador political giant, died Jan. 10 at age 88.

Crosbie was cremated and his remains lay in state at Confederation Building in St. John's over the last two days where countless members of the public visited to pay their respects.
