Business owner Paul Antle will not seek the Liberal leadership.

Antle issued a release early Wednesday announcing his decision, which he says comes down to his business commitments.

“My decision ultimately boils down to the commitment I made to the people of Marystown, the Burin Peninsula, and aquaculture industry as a whole,” reads the release.

Antle’s Marbase project is still undergoing environmental assessment by the provincial government, after Antle purchased the Marystown shipyard from the provincial government for $1 million in September 2019. Antle also owns the St. John’s Dockyard.

Antle was the Liberal candidate in the 2018 Windsor Lake byelection. He came in second to Premier Dwight Ball in the 2013 Liberal leadership race.
