UPDATE: RNC says a 49-year-old woman was victim of weekend car accident in metro St. John's

Single-vehicle mishap happened at exit between Pitts Memorial Drive and Commonwealth Ave.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is looking for potential witnesses or anyone with dash-cam video that could assist in the investigation of a single-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a 49-year-old woman in the St. John's metro area early Saturday morning.

The accident happened at approximately 2:50 a.m. at the off-ramp connecting Pitts Memorial Drive and Commonwealth Ave,

Police say the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. A male occupant of the car was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

One woman is dead following a single-vehicle crash in St. John’s early Saturday morning.

A man was also injured in the incident which happened just after 2:30 a.m. on the Pitts Memorial Drive westbound off-ramp just before entering Mount Pearl. It appears the car left the ramp before hitting and cracking off a light pole and coming to rest nearby.

When the Telegram arrived on scene, the male was being placed in an ambulance by Eastern Health paramedics while firefighters from the St. John’s Regional Fire Department secured the scene.

The extensively damaged vehicle could be seen sitting in tall grass next to the ramp near the stump of the cracked pole.

Newfoundland Power was also called in to assist as an electrical wire had been pulled down onto the ground during the crash.

The man’s injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating the incident and more details will be provided as they become available.
