A man is dead and two other people are in hospital with life-threatening injuries after shots were fired at a residence on Cork Street in Halifax late Wednesday night.
Halifax police received a call of possible gunshots at about 10:43 p.m. in the area of the 6300 block of Cork Street in Halifax, police said in a news release.
"Officers arrived on scene and located a man with gunshot injuries outside of a residence, a deceased adult male inside of a residence and an adult female with injuries," police said.
The man and the woman were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where they remain.
Initially, police said they found three people with injuries, but "were not in a position to initially release that one of the victims was found deceased."
Investigators believe the three people are known to one another.
People who live in the area said they heard loud bangs at the time, but thought it was fireworks for Canada Day.
Traffic is still being restricted in the area as police continue their investigation, centred on the house at 6342 Cork St. That end of Cork Street is close to the intersection of Windsor Street, next to the Halifax Forum.
Police say further information will be released as it becomes available.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 902-490-5020 or Crime Stoppers.
