The Newfoundland and Labrador Liberal party will announce its new leader and the premier-to-be this evening as it releases results of online voting by party members, who chose between Andrew Furey and John Abbott to replace Premier Dwight Ball in the Liberals’ top job.

That voting concluded earlier today, with the tabulation beginning at 3 p.m. during the party’s annual general meeting, which for the most part, is being conducted virtually.

The announcement of the results is scheduled to come at 6 p.m., followed by a speech from the winner, who will become Newfoundland and Labrador’s 14th premier, and interviews with both candidates.

However, before the voting results are revealed, the party will have a tribute to Ball, who has been premier for more than five years and led the Liberals to two electoral victories. That tribute is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Both events can be accessed through Zoom accounts or through the party's Facebook account.
