SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Two New Brunswick men were in Summerside provincial court recently on fisheries charges.
Jonathan Craig Sock, 47, and Lyndon Stephen James Joseph, 29, of Big Cove, N.B., pleaded guilty to fishing crab in a closed area.
The charges are from May 2018 in waters near Tignish.
Sock and Joseph had a license to fish Crab Fishing Areas 12, 18, 25 and 26, with exception of areas closed by a Variation Order. The order was in place to help protect North Atlantic right whales.
Fisheries officers seized eight traps set by Sock and Joseph that were between 76 and 452 metres inside the closed area.
The men were fined $3,500 each for failing to comply with the conditions of the commercial fishing license.
