HARBOUR BRETON, N.L. — The RCMP in Harbour Breton say a 60-year-old man died as the result of boating collision that occurred Monday or early Tuesday on the ocean near a cabin area approximately 10 kilometres outside of St. Albans.

Police suspect the boat collided with some rocks within the water, causing extensive damage to the vessel.

The RCMP was notified Tuesday morning about an abandoned boat that was partially submerged along the shoreline. However, the vessel’s operator of the vessel, who had not been seen since Monday, was not in or around the boat.

While police were arranging for a search and rescue effort, the body of the missing man, who was not wearing a life jacket, was located in the water a distance away from the vessel.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was engaged and the investigation is underway.
