ST. JOHN'S — A person has died due to COVID-19 in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Details are limited, but reports suggest that a person in the Eastern Health service region has succumbed to the disease in the time since yesterday's media availability with government officials, during which it was announced that seven people had been hospitalized, two of whom were in intensive care.

More specifics are expected in today's availability with Premier Dwight Ball, Minister of Health John Haggie and Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, the province's Chief Medical Officer of Health.

The live stream is anticipated to take place mid-afternoon and will be live-streamed on The Telegram's website.
