DOMINION, N.S. — The top prize for Sunday’s final Glace Bay Minor Hockey Association 50-50 draw of the season fell short of a record, but the winning ticket holder is likely still happy to have taken home the $111,013.50 the fundraiser produced.
The ticket signed by Helene MacDonald of New Waterford was first chosen from the drum at the Dominion arena on Sunday afternoon.
Also awarded were five $1,000 prizes and an additional five $500 prizes. Ten other ticket holders were recipients of $250.
The draw was originally scheduled for April 5 but was postponed due to COVID-19 precautions. Safety protocols were in place for Sunday’s draw.
The record prize for the popular Glace Bay draw was set in December when more than $198,000 was awarded to Roland Zablaskie of Florence.
Proceeds from the weekly 50-50 draw help to make hockey more accessible for youth.
