SYDNEY, N.S. — More than $600,000 is being given to New Dawn Enterprises to help international students in Cape Breton.
The federal funding of $609,317 will be provided over a three-year period and is non-repayable.
According to a release sent Monday morning, the money will be used to "provide community and business integration services" to the international student population in the area.
These services and supports will take place off-campus and will be managed by the Cape Breton Island Centre for Immigration, which is a division of New Dawn.
Along with networking opportunities and employment preparedness workshops, there will also be programming related to developing business skills and entrepreneurship.
“It is my hope that these enriched services and resources will make it easier for more international students to find their place — and perhaps a permanent home — in one of Cape Breton’s vibrant communities,” said Sydney-Victoria MP Jaime Battiste, who made the funding announcement on behalf of Mélanie Joly, minister of economic development and official languages and minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
