An impaired driving suspect fled police in Pembroke on Thursday, smashing into a police cruiser and a parked car before driving east at high speed.

Ontario Provincial Police did not pursue the car, a red Honda Civic, because of concerns about public safety.

According to an OPP news release, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment responded to reports of an impaired driver in downtown Pembroke at about 10:30 a.m. Police found the suspect vehicle in a parking lot, but the driver fled the scene, striking both a police cruiser and parked car.

No one was injured.

The fleeing car, with licence plate CEBT 685, was last observed speeding east on Pembroke Street East. The rear end of the vehicle was damaged from one of the collisions.

The search for the driver and his car continues. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 613-732-3332 or 1-888-310-1122.  Anonymous tips can be made to  Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or at www.valleytips.ca .
