A worker was taken to hospital Tuesday after a bridge near Canso collapsed as a transport truck hauling a crane drove over it.
In a video of the incident posted to Facebook, a worker spots the truck onto the Tittle Bridge, a steel truss bridge leading to Durells Island.
The worker then runs out of the video frame as the truck approaches the middle of bridge, moments before it collapses.
One worker was taken to hospital for observation, the province's Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Department said in a news release.
Alva Construction, recently awarded the tender to replace the bridge this summer, was in the beginning stages of its work when the bridge collapsed.
“The local fire department is providing residents assistance on an emergency basis as the department works towards re-establishing permanent access to the island,” the department said in the release.
The cause of the incident has yet to be determined and the Labour Department has been notified.
