Ontario public health officials reported 25 new deaths from COVID-19 and 408 new confirmed cases Sunday, an 11.2 per cent increase that brings the total number of cases provincewide to 4,038.

Of those cases, 2.9 per cent, or 119 people, have died, and 35.9 per cent of people have recovered.

A total of 75,046 people have been tested in Ontario with 981 cases under investigation.

A total of 523 people have been hospitalized in the province, 200 are in intensive care and 154 required a ventilator.

Demographics of Ontario cases:

  • 47.5 per cent male, 52 per cent female

  • 27.5 per cent are 20-39

On Saturday, Ottawa Public Health reported a fourth death and 33 new confirmed cases, bringing the total to 322 in the city.

Generally, statistics for official diagnoses should be viewed with caution. Testing does not track down all cases in a community because the mild symptoms most people have aren’t distinguishable from common colds and because public health can’t test large numbers of people. The province’s daily summary is based on data reported by the 34 public health units across Ontario and pulled from the Public Health Information System at 4 p.m. the previous day

Coming up Sunday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will make an address to Canadians from Rideau Cottage in Ottawa at 11:15 .m.

Federal government health officials are giving an update on COVID-19 at noon.

And Queen Elizabeth will address the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth at 3 p.m. EST.
