Laval police announced on Thursday they had made an arrest in the 15-year-old slaying of Nadia Panarello, who was found stabbed to death in her home on Feb. 12, 2004.
In a bulletin made public early Thursday morning, police said they had on July 11 arrested Ernesto Fera, 53, in connection with the slaying and that he had been charged with first-degree murder on July 12.
Fera was the victim’s husband at the time of the slaying.
Panarello , 38, was a mother of two with no criminal past, was found in the bedroom of her home on Michel Gamelin St. near Laval’s Cité de la Santé hospital.
A family member found her body around noon after her employer called to inquire about her absence from work.
Police canvassed the neighbourhood, but no one saw anything suspicious the morning Panarello was killed. There were no signs of forcible entry at the home. Robbery was ruled out, since nothing was taken.
In 2012, police revealed that a collection of photos depicting a individual on vacation in a tropical location was found in the mailbox at the home of Panarello’s mother in the hours following her death. However the lead proved a dead end after police established the photos had simply been delivered to the wrong home.
